The Club

Our Aims

To promote the free exchange of information regarding all aspcts of parrot ownership, care, and breeding.

To advance public knowledge and understanding of environmental dangers to the existence of parrot species in their natural habitat and worldwide.

To support any group or activity working toward conservation of wild parrots.

Meetings

The OPC meets at 7 pm (till 9 pm) on the third Sunday of every month, except January and February at the Jack Purcell Community Centre, 320 Elgin Street, Ottawa. (Near the corner of Lewis and Elgin. "Lewis" also called Jack Purcell Lane.) Non-Members are welcome.

Many members bring their pet parrots to the meetings. We ask that they be healthy, tame, and that their wings are clipped (or flight is otherwise restricted).

Want to Join?

Membership fees are $30/$40 per year.  You'll get  a membership card that will entitle you to make discounted purchases at participating  local pet shops.  You will also get the Ottawa Psittacine, our club newsletter either e-mailed or snail-mailed to you every month. (except January & February).

Print and fill out our membership application form and mail it with your cheque (address is on the form).  (You will need the Adobe Acrobat reader which is available for free)

Buying a parrot?

If you are considering purchasing a parrot, please come to the meetings. It will give you a chance to learn about the different kinds of parrots, their care and most importantly, essential tips on raising a healthy, happy addition to your family. You will get a chance see different species, and talk with experienced pet owners. Also, many pet store staff and breeders attend the meetings regularly.
